The Kerama Islands boast one of the most beautiful seas in Japan.
The transparency of the surrounding waters where coral grows is exceptionally high, and the gradation of the water surface created by the white sand and light is praised as "Kerama Blue.'' The sea surrounding the islands, designated as a national park, is loved by divers and has become a scenic spot where people from all over the world gather to see it. Tokashiki Island is the largest of the Kerama Islands. It is 30 kilometres west of Tomari Port in Naha, a 40-minute ferry ride each way. It is a popular tourist area due to its charm and ability to be easily enjoyed on a day trip. The ocean floor is home to colourful coral reefs and tropical fish. It is an island rich in nature, with colorful subtropical plants growing freely on land.
Famous spots on Tokashiki Island include Aharen Beach and Tokashiku Beach. You can enjoy marine activities such as swimming, diving and snorkelling in the beautiful ocean. It is a well-known story that humpback whales appear in winter waters near the island to raise their young and breed. Whale watching is also a popular content. Also, please pay attention to nature other than the ocean. In the centre of the island, there are mountains with an altitude of 200 meters, and the fields are decorated with colourful subtropical flowers. Observation decks that use this hill are scattered in various locations in the north, south, east, and west. You can rent a car and go around the observation decks. It is also fun to drive leisurely around the island while looking at the scenery outside the mountain decorated with colorful flowers.
